Vetter Named to HPC Wire’s “People to Watch” List

Jeffrey Vetter, a joint UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory professor, has been named by HPC Wire to their “People to Watch” list for 2017.

Vetter, who works in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the Tickle College of Engineering, gave an interview to the magazine that touched on topics ranging from what’s coming next in computing to his love of being outside.

“We may need to reformulate the algorithms on new languages or libraries to gain full advantage of the new underlying (computer) hardware,” Vetter told the magazine. “This ‘switching cost’ will be a major impediment for any new technology, so it is difficult to predict which technology might displace CMOS (current semiconductors).”

HPC Wire began in 1987 as a way to cover and report upon the world of computing.

It began the “People to Watch” list as a way to “foster a dialogue about our industry and give our readers a personal look at the hard work, dedication, and contributions from some of the best and brightest minds in HPC.”

Along with Vetter, 11 other people from the world of computing were named to this year’s list.
