The Los Alamos National Laboratory recently featured research conducted by Andrew Steiner, UT-ORNL joint faculty assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, along with Matthew Mumpower at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Gail C. McLaughlin at North Carolina State University, Rebecca Surman at the University of Notre Dame.
These experimenters are seeking to determine how elements on the periodic table were produced. They are using accelerators to mimic the conditions in the universe where nuclear reactions create the heavier elements beyond iron.
