UT’s Haslam College of Business will recognize veterans and active service members at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, in the college’s atrium.
The event falls on the birthday of the United States Marine Corps and features retired Marine Col. Kenneth Dunn as the keynote speaker. The free event is sponsored by the college’s Office of Diversity and Community Relations and is open to all veterans, active service members, and the larger UT community.
Dunn’s talk, “Service to Nation, Community and Family,” will highlight Tennessee’s history of voluntary military service.
Dunn, an educator, served in the Marines for 30 years. He has a bachelor’s degree from the US Naval Academy, master’s degrees from Pepperdine University and the National Defense University, and a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University.
Although retired from the service, Dunn remains active as a federal government civilian employee at the Marine Corps headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. He directs the Marine Corps Leadership Seminar, an outreach effort to showcase Marine Corps leadership to colleges and universities in the United States.

Mangum, dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair. “The level of responsibility placed on their shoulders is profound and unparalleled. Our college actively welcomes working with these fine individuals to add to and hone their skills, and to assist them in finding appropriate advancement opportunities in their next employment and beyond.”
Dan Flint, professor of marketing and supply chain management and a former Navy officer, will recognize veterans and active military members. The recognition will be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.
On Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11, Dunn will teach a Marine Corps Leadership Seminar co-hosted by the Haslam College of Business and the Center for Career Development. Students, faculty, staff, and community members of the college must register to attend.
