Changes are coming to the process for requesting a key or swipe card access on campus.

Ensuring the safety of our community and campus is always of the utmost importance, and these access changes will increase the security and control over who can access campus buildings and departmental spaces.

In addition to increased security, this new system will foster better management of request and recovery processes, provide automatic user notifications, and eliminate the need to pass paper between campus departments.

The new system will launch October 10.

Customers, campus building representatives, and cost center approvers will all use a new online system to request, approve, or relinquish access to secured campus locations. Customers will be able to request keys or swipe card access, check the status of a request, and review their current key/card access records. Once a request is initiated, cost center approvers will be required to approve the access request, and campus building representatives will be approving door or card swipe access to the external doors in their building. Cost center approvers and campus building representatives will also be able to log in and view who has been granted access to their areas.

Emails will be used for notification as requests move through the system.

Active regular employees will be able to log in and request access to buildings and rooms. Students and contractors will not be able to request keys directly. Building access for these individuals will need to be requested by a regular employee. Cost center approvals will be based on the sponsoring employee and any keys will be assigned to this sponsoring employee, who will be responsible for key returns and relinquishing access for the student or contractor.

Once a key is made and available for pickup at Lock and Key Services, or card access has been granted, another email notification will go out to the requestor.

Building access swipe cards are also being upgraded across campus. The system will be converted over to Cardax during the new few months. Further information about that changeover will be provided as the date nears.
