Mary Jo Hoover, retired associate dean of student affairs in the College of Law, passed away September 11. She was 80.

Hoover joined the faculty of the UT College of Law in August 1976 as assistant dean and instructor of law. She became the associate dean for student affairs in 1980 and served until her retirement in the summer of 1997. She twice received the Carden Institutional Service Award and also received a Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Advising.

After Hoover retired from the university, she continued to serve the community as a pro bono attorney for both the Legal Aid Society and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. September 30 in the Howard H. Baker Rotunda at UT’s College of Law. All are invited to attend.
