Professor Terry Hazen will present “Methane: The New Paradigm” at Friday’s Science Forum.
His talk will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Thompson-Boling Arena Café, Rooms C-D. His forty-minute presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion.
The Science Forum is free and open to the public. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase it at the café.
Hazen’s talk will follow a theme of “the good, the bad and the ugly” in looking at the newly increased use of methane as a fuel source. Hazen is the UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory Governor’s Chair for Environmental Biotechnology. He serves as a professor in UT’s Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Microbiology, and Earth and Planetary Sciences, and the director of the Institute for Secure and Sustainable Environments and Biosciences Division at ORNL. He has received two R&D 100 awards and the Federal Technology Transfer Medal. His research focuses on environmental systems engineering as it relates to bioenergy, bioremediation, climate change, and environmental biotechnology.
The Science Forum began in 1933 and is one of UT’s oldest organizations. It was designed to provide the general public, students, and other researchers a chance to learn about the latest scientific research.
