The School of Music launches this year’s Ready for the World Series with a visit to Poland on Sunday, September 25.
The series brings renowned artists to campus to perform and educate students, faculty, and the general public about diverse musical styles and art from around the world.
The celebration of Polish music and culture, which is free and open to the public, will start at 12:30 p.m. with a reception in the lobby of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. Faculty and guests will discuss classical music traditions while enjoying food provided by an authentic Polish vendor. The George F. DeVine Music Library and Polish families and artists will display Polish cultural and artistic artifacts.
The concert, which will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall, will feature performances by violinist Andrzej Grabiec, pianist Igor Lipinski, and soprano Lorraine DiSimone.
Grabiec, a professor of violin at the University of Houston, has studied the violin since age seven and has performed in orchestras around the world.
Lipinski, who joined UT’s piano faculty this fall, is a renowned concert pianist and magician who has performed with many orchestras around the country.
DiSimone, an assistant professor of voice at UT, has sung with symphonies and orchestras and in operas around the country. She will sing celebrated Polish songs at the concert.
This is the only Ready for the World Music Series event planned for the fall. This spring, the series will feature events focusing on Brazil and China.
The Ready for the World Music Series is made possible by sponsors that include UT’s College of Arts and Sciences, School of Music, Libraries, and Confucius Institute; the Haines-Morris Endowment; HoLA (Hora Latina); and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee.
