For the upcoming election, UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy has challenged the University of Florida Bob Graham Center in a friendly competition to register the most students to vote.
Students who will be eighteen years or older by Election Day November 8 can register online or in person at the Baker Center, 1640 Cumberland Ave. The deadline to register in Tennessee is October 11, but all are encouraged to register no later than Tuesday, October 4, to allow for processing by the Election Commission.
“Students have an opportunity to choose who will lead this country for the next four years as well as local and state leaders,” said Nissa Dahlin-Brown, associate director of the Baker Center. “We encourage all students to have their voice heard and vote.”
Voters who register in Knox County will be eligible for early voting on campus October 31 through November 3 at the Baker Center, which is also the polling location on Election Day for students residing in Precincts 10W and 10S.
“Howard and I were friends for many years, and this competition reflects our tradition of bipartisan cooperation and commitment to engaging young people in our democracy,” said former US Senator Bob Graham.
The Baker Center is also hosting Voterpalooza from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, in the Toyota Auditorium. The event—cohosted by SGA, UT Political Science Club, Baker Ambassadors, and Baker Scholars—is an opportunity to hear from students representing the presidential candidates in a fun and open atmosphere.
