Members of the University Community:

It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the death of a member of the Volunteer family earlier this week.

Andrew Vermillion was from Pace, Florida, and was a junior majoring in English with a concentration in rhetoric and writing in the College of Arts and Sciences. He was an active member of the Russian Language and Culture Club and had developed many friendships beyond the classroom with fellow UT students.

Andrew’s friends have expressed how much he loved being a part of the Knoxville and UT communities. His presence will be missed dearly, and in this time of grief and sadness I ask that you remember and celebrate his life in true Volunteer spirit.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks donations be directed to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Student Counseling Services Center Development Fund.  If you wish to donate, please make checks payable to the University of Tennessee Foundation or go to giveto.utk.edu and designate your gift to the Student Counseling Services Center. Mail checks to the University of Tennessee Foundation, 1525 University Avenue, Knoxville, TN, 37996.

The loss of one of our students has a significant impact on our Volunteer family. In times of such loss, we are called as a campus community to support each other. To assist in this regard, the Student Counseling Center is available to support students in this difficult time. More information about the Student Counseling Center can be found at counselingcenter.utk.edu

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Life is working directly with Andrew’s family to support them at this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Vincent Carilli

Vice Chancellor for Student Life
