Wired featured Daniel Simberloff, Gore Hunger Professor of Environmental Studies, in a recent story about human control over species population size.

When it comes to stopping a species from over populating, Simberloff says its possible to “introduce an edited gene that, for example, causes all the females to have only male offspring, and eventually the population dies.” On large mainland population this might not be able to spread far enough, but on islands it might, according to him.
