UT’s David Clarke, the director of the Center for Transportation Research, recently talked to Wallet Hub on a number of issues related to driving, including the growth of self-driving cars.
On that topic, when asked what he thought the adaptation rate of the vehicles would be, Clarke said he thought it would be many years before there was a significant uptick in driverless cars.
He said the reasons included everything from needing to improve roadway technology and infrastructure to the fact that at the current time most “smart” vehicles tend to be high-end and out of the reach of the average driver.
Other topics Clarke covered included the need to improve mass transit, to better educate the public on driver safety, and to enforce laws and codes to make driving safer for all.
