One of the many improvements occurring across campus is the implementation of a new building access management system called Gallagher. This card-reader system will replace aging access and alarm technology and provide a more secure campus environment.

Several buildings have already been outfitted with the new access system as part of the initial implementation. Over the coming months, Facilities Services, the UT Police Department, the VolCard Office, and the Office of Information Technology will complete the transition to the Gallagher system. This includes replacing current card readers, replacing access cards with new iClass cards, and reviewing the list of people who have access to each building.

The order of building transitions for 2016 will be as follows:

  • Kingston Pike Building, beginning the week of July 18
  • Stokely Management Center
  • Student Services
  • Communications and University Extension
  • Andy Holt Tower
  • Visitors Center
  • Conference Center Building
  • Dunford Hall
  • Ellington Plant Sciences
  • Food Safety and Processing
  • Henson Hall
  • Jessie Harris Building
  • Taylor Law Center
  • Law Library
  • Morgan Hall
  • Science and Engineering Research
  • South College
  • Aquatic Center
  • Remaining buildings across campus will be transitioned in 2017.

As each building is prepared for the transition, the appropriate building representative will receive a report listing the people who currently have access to the building and any controlled areas. The building owner will be given approximately one month to update the list and return it to Central Alarm.

UTPD will ensure that the Gallagher system is updated to reflect the approved access. VolCard will review the updated report and provide the building representatives with a list of people who need to have their current access cards replaced with an iClass card. Soon after, the new card readers for the building will be installed.

More details will be available as the time to transition each building approaches.
