It’s important for you to remember to make your personal wellness a priority while at UT. There are many resources on campus to help you learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating healthy foods, exercising regularly, and practicing good sleep habits. Below is a list of what you can do to maintain your personal wellness this upcoming school year.

  • Develop good habits: To keep a healthy balance as a college student, it is critical that you develop good stress- and time-management skills. You might become stressed with the demands of academics, friends and family, and extracurricular activities. By choosing activities wisely and maintaining a consistent and reasonable schedule, you may avoid stress and burnout. If you are feeling overburdened, reach out to the Counseling Center or the Center for Health Education and Wellness.
  • Know where to go for health-related assistance: For non-emergency medical conditions, the Student Health Center provides a range of quality health services. For after-hours medical emergencies, contact 911 or the UT Medical Center Emergency Room. For mental health services, including college adjustment issues, sexual assault, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and stress management, reach out to the Center for Health Education and Wellness to receive assistance.
  • Drink water: Drinking enough water can help boost your concentration as well as keep you from overeating. Make sure that you keep hydrated as you go through your day by carrying water with you.
  • Take advantage of fitness courses: Along with working out alone or with a friend on the fitness machines at TRECS, you have access to UT’s group fitness classes. We encourage you to take advantage and get a workout in that will help keep you in shape and motivated.
  • Be informed about common health issues: Health issues you may be susceptible to during the college years include colds, strep throat, mononucleosis, influenza, eating disorders, and depression. Take the necessary steps to be aware of health issues and notice early signs of illness in order to have a speedy recovery.

Several UT offices are here to provide you with the help and guidance you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle:

Student Health Center: The center provides non-emergency outpatient medical care for students. Services include allergy/immunizations, women’s health, mental health, physical therapy, and primary care. Additionally, the center offers a pharmacy so that students don’t have to leave campus to have prescriptions filled.
