A new UT Community of Scholars focused on research and engagement in Appalachia is forming, and an introductory meeting will be held 2:30–4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Baker Center.
Timothy Ezzell, research scientist and lecturer in the university’s Department of Political Science and an expert in Appalachian community and economic development, will lead the group.
The goal of the Appalachia Community of Scholars is to coordinate and conduct research and engagement throughout the region to better understand its resources, people, culture, opportunities and challenges, and to help promote equitable and sustainable development.
UT’s Community of Scholars program invites UT’s diverse research community to attend and contribute to this new group. Those interested in attending the meeting should RSVP online.
“A community of scholars encourages the growth of research across disciplinary boundaries,” said Diana Moyer, social science coordinator on the faculty development team in the Office of Research and Engagement.
The event will provide an opportunity to learn more about research currently being conducted in Appalachia and will include a discussion of ways to increase research contributions to the region.
