UT will celebrate the seventh annual Research Week April 11–15 with a series of events centered around research, art, and scholarship from undergraduate students across campus.
Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research, this weeklong event gives students an opportunity to showcase their own work and learn how to become further engaged in the university’s research community.
Every year, the highlight of Research Week is the Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURēCA). This year is even more special as 2016 marks the twentieth anniversary of EURēCA. To commemorate this special occasion, Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek will help kick off the weeklong event with a cake-cutting celebration in Hodges Library, where students will display their research posters and creative works all week.
“We are excited to have this week to showcase the research and creative accomplishments of our undergraduate students. Attending an institution classified as the highest level of research activity affords our students opportunities to conduct research alongside a faculty mentor in most every discipline,” said Marisa Moazen, director of undergraduate research.
New to Research Week this year is a research-based scavenger hunt. Participants will complete questions pertaining to research and scholarship across all majors and disciplines. The scavenger hunt is limited to the first twenty students or student teams who register and is open until Thursday, April 14, at noon. Prizes will be awarded to top-placing teams or individuals.
The week concludes Friday, April 15, with two important events: the Women in STEM Research Symposium and the final round of the Undergraduate Business Plan Competition.
The second annual Women in STEM Research Symposium is a daylong professional conference for women in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. It highlights undergraduate, graduate, faculty, and staff research with presentations, speakers from local industry, and panel discussions, as well as a career fair and student organization fair. The symposium will be held in the Min Kao Building from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Undergraduate Business Plan Competition, hosted by UT’s Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, gives students the opportunity to take an idea and turn it into a comprehensive business plan. The finals will be held in Stokely Management Center Room G2, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Scheduled among these larger events are several recitals, lectures, and symposia designed to enhance the research experience at UT.
