The News Sentinel featured the upcoming debut of a half-hour documentary by UT professor Nick Geidner and his journalism students. The documentary, Reaching Recovery, will shed some light on the problem of neonatal abstinence syndrome in East Tennessee.

The documentary was produced under Geidner’s Land Grant Films, a philanthropic documentary project based in UT’s School of Journalism and Electronic Media, in which students can choose to participate as an extracurricular activity.

WBIR-TV, Channel 10, will live-stream the premiere, which begins at 7:00 p.m. in the downstairs auditorium of the main health department, 140 Dameron Avenue. The station will also air a panel discussion to follow, moderated by WBIR anchor Robin Wilhoit with panelists Dr. Martha Buchanan, Knox County Health Department director; Metro Drug Coalition Director Karen Pershing; neonatal nurse practitioner Carla Saunders of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital; and Evan Sexton, director of preferred prenatal outcomes for Renaissance Recovery Group.
