Daniel Simberloff recently co-authored a study that suggests that “rewilding,” efforts to restore land back to its natural state by reintroducing wild animals, may be limited at best. Science Daily and Phys.org highlighted the study, which was published in the Cell Press journal Current Biology.
Simberloff noted that the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park is often highlighted as a success story through its cascading effects on the landscape. But the influence of such reintroductions can be highly variable and hard to predict.
Simberloff is the Gore Hunger Professor of Environmental Studies in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
