More than 300 middle and high school students will demonstrate their historical research, knowledge and creativity as they compete in the fifteenth annual East Tennessee History Day on Friday, March 4.
The event will showcase students’ history-themed projects in a variety of formats, including museum-style exhibits, papers, web sites, documentaries, and live performances. Participants will vie for a chance at the state and national competition. History Day will be held at the UT Conference Center and the East Tennessee History Center.
The East Tennessee Historical Society and the UT Department of History are sponsoring the event.
The 319 student participants represent twenty-one East Tennessee public schools in Blount, Cocke, Greene, Knox, Lenoir City, Loudon, Morgan, Sevier, Sullivan and Washington counties. Contestants also include students from private and home schools in the area.
District winners will move on to Tennessee History Day in Nashville in April and state winners will compete in the National History Day contest in June at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
