UT researchers Steven Wilhelm, Gary LeCleir, and Shawn Campagna co-authored a study which shows that microorganisms in the gut could play a role in reducing the severity of malaria. The research could one day help scientists develop new treatments for malaria in humans.

International media outlets featured the story including the Times of India and South India-based Deccan Chronicle.

Vaccine News Daily and Knoxville-based WVLT-TV Local 8 Now also highlighted the story.
