The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy wants to ensure UT students have the opportunity to register to vote, change their voter registration, and learn about absentee voting in time for the March 1 presidential preference and county primary election.
The Baker Center is doing this work through the VOLs Vote Task Force, a network of campus organizations that seek to promote civic engagement within their membership through voter registration.
Students can find registration forms in the Baker Center Rotunda, as well as a secure box for for turning in their completed forms. The Baker Center will accept completed forms until noon on Friday, January 29, and mail them on behalf of students. The deadline allows the forms to reach the various county election offices by the registration deadline of Monday, February 1.
Students who cannot go home to vote in their home county for the primary can vote through an absentee ballot.
To request an absentee ballot, voters must fill out the absentee request form and send it to their county election commission. Absentee ballots are accepted up to seven days before the election.
Early voting for the primary starts February 10 and ends February 23. Information on all counties and deadlines can be found on the Secretary of State website.
