The University of Tennessee Police Department will hold its annual employee awards ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, to recognize members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. The campus community and members of the media are invited to attend.

The event will be in the community room of the UT Police Department, 1101 Cumberland Avenue. It is on the corner of Eleventh Street and Cumberland Ave.

Each year, members of the department are encouraged to nominate fellow employees for various awards. Recommendations from the general public are also heavily weighed. This year’s honors will include:

Community Service Award, presented for service to the community above and beyond the call of duty.

Officer of the Year, presented by the department to an officer for outstanding performance throughout the year.

Supervisor of the Year, presented to a commissioned or noncommissioned supervisor for outstanding performance.

Noncommissioned Employee of the Year, presented to a noncommissioned staff member for outstanding performance throughout the year.

Nominations are reviewed by a panel of people from outside the department and one anonymous member of the department who was not nominated and did not nominate another.

“This is easily one of the favorite parts of my job,” UTPD Chief Troy Lane said. “The opportunity to truly recognize employees who devote their careers to helping others is a great thing. The fact that they are being recognized by their fellow employees just goes to show that their efforts do not go unnoticed.”
