Joshua InwoodUS Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, during a recent hearing about affirmative action, said students of color may be better off at “lesser schools” because many are “pushed ahead too fast.”

Joshua Inwood, associate professor of geography and Africana studies, told WATE-TV Channel 6 that Scalia’s comments may demonstrate how his power relationships and ideas about race inform his jurisprudence. He added that they raise questions about whether there should be term limits on the Supreme Court, particularly since Scalia expressed views “that do not match reality.”

“If you don’t keep up with the times, you can become outmoded quite quickly,” Inwood said during the interview. Watch the interview online.
