Steven WilhelmA prestigious aquatic science organization has appointed a UT microbiology professor as one of its fellows.

Steven Wilhelm, Kenneth and Blaire Mossman Professor in the Department of Microbiology, is part of the inaugural class of sustaining fellows of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography.

The honor is given to organization members who have advanced the aquatic sciences through their exceptional contributions that have benefited the society and its publications, meetings, and other activities.

The fellows program, established this year, welcomes a total of forty-six members in its first class. The honorees will be feted at the organization’s meeting next June in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Wilhelm has been a member of the association since 1991. His contributions include attending twenty-two of its conferences and organizing scientific sessions at seven of them. He has been a key contributor to its publications as well, serving as an editor of ASLO’s first e-book, Manual of Aquatic Viral Ecology, to which he contributed three peer-reviewed chapters.
