As part of the university’s successful Carnegie Community Engagement Classification application process, the Office of Research and Engagement has compiled a list of fifty of UT’s best community-campus partnerships. The university will be celebrating its status as an engaged institution throughout the year by featuring these individual examples in articles that highlight their unique contribution to the community.
Community Partnerships with the Arts Programs
The College of Arts and Sciences’ Community Partnerships with the Arts Programs put students and faculty into the public arts arena and include the public in our arts venues as well. These programs, offered through the Department of Theatre, the School of Music, and the School of Art, involve over 100 faculty members and over 800 students each year.
UT’s arts programs help recruit top-notch students and faculty. Community partnership programs help UT compete for top fine arts candidates by offering them professional placement opportunities in the community when they arrive.
Many of the area’s professional and community arts programs could not function without the involvement of faculty, staff, and students. Arts faculty function as jurors for art exhibitions in the community, serve on community advisory committees and community boards, speak to community groups and visit public and private schools in East Tennessee, and engage students in local schools in arts-related projects.
