Design thinking, an emerging tool of innovation and exploration for all disciplines where future outcomes are at stake, will be discussed at this week’s Science Forum.
David Matthews, UT professor of architecture and design and chair of interior design, will discuss design thinking, a universal multidisciplinary design process that outlines how designers change existing conditions into preferred outcomes. His Science Forum talk, “Design Thinking and Creative Process: How Designers Approach Wicked Problems and Engage the Future,” will be held at noon Friday, October 30, in Room C-D of Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Science Forum is a weekly brown-bag lunch series that allows professors and area scientists to discuss their research with the general public in a conversational presentation.
Free and open to the public, each Science Forum consists of a fourty-minute presentation followed by a Q-and-A session. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch or purchase it at the café in Thompson-Boling Arena. The Science Forum is sponsored by the UT Office of Research and Engagement and Quest, an initiative to raise awareness of the research, scholarship, and creative activity happening on campus.
Matthews earned bachelor’s degrees in interior design and studio art from Ohio University before earning a master’s degree in architecture at Miami University. He came to UT in 2010.
