The semiannual McClung Public Speaking Contest will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 29, in the Panhellenic Building. The event, hosted by the School of Communication Studies, is the largest public speaking competition in the Southeast.

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend for a night of oratorical entertainment. During commercials between each speaker, attendees will also learn about campus involvement opportunities, including the Student Success Center and UT Athletics.

More than 900 UT students are currently enrolled in Communication Studies 210, a public speaking course. These students were asked to prepare informative speeches with an international focus in keeping with the university’s Ready for the World campaign. Finalists in the competition are determined based on a rigorous selection process that included an outline review and a semifinal round.

Students who come to view the presentations will be entered to win several gift-card giveaways provided by local businesses such as Smoothie King, Citrus Greek, and more.

For additional information, contact committee chairs Cathy Cuevas or Sarah Huff Vassallo.
