The Haslam College of Business will host analytics experts from across the country November 9-10 to address data strategy and exchange examples of maturity model best practices at its semiannual Business Analytics Forum. The forum will be held at the Holiday Inn at World’s Fair Park.

The Business Analytics Forum is a small group of noncompeting companies, each having business analytics as a central component of its business strategy and operations.

Aaron Burciaga, analytics executive at Accenture and chair of the INFORMS analytics maturity model, will deliver the keynote address on how to complete a maturity model that will maximize organizational efficacy and benefits to business growth.

“Many organizations who take the time to complete an analytics maturity model don’t know how best to use the results to effect change in the organization,” said Julie Ferrara, director of the Business Analytics Forum and assistant department head for business analytics. “For some organizations, the area that would lead to the greatest improvements might not be the weakest area in the assessment. The forum will give attendees strategies to identify what change will have the greatest potential for business success.”

Analytics maturity models exist to propel data-driven business management, but all too often companies fail to utilize them beyond an initial business intelligence assessment.

Representatives from Coca-Cola, Eastman Chemical and supply chain consulting company St. Onge will present examples of successful maturity model implementations and identify common pitfalls of the process. This session will include a live maturity model assessment guided by UT Business Analytics Professors Sean Willems and Randy Bradley as well as an Accenture staff member involved in creating the INFORMS analytics maturity model.

On day two of the forum, members will share their experiences in specific areas of analytics maturity, such as what works well and what doesn’t, and tips for success.

The event is free to attend for forum members. Companies interested in participating in the forum may attend once as guests. For inquiries about membership and benefits, contact Julie Ferrara at 865-974-1659 or jferrar@utk.edu.
