North Carolina-based Cross Company is expanding its presence in the Knoxville market with a $3.5 million, 22,000 square foot facility, and the impact of the University of Tennessee is seen as a major factor, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

According to the News Sentinel

About a third of the Knoxville employees — particularly in engineering and business — have come from the University of Tennessee. That recruitment resource, as well as Knoxville’s proximity to many of the company’s clients, influenced the decision to expand here.

The company, which provides machines and personnel to help businesses in the area of process improvement, has staff from throughout the southeast report to the Knoxville office, as well as 38 permanent positions in the location itself.

It hopes to grow its Knoxville sales to more than $80 million by 2018, with an overall goal for $200 million across all locations.
