The Baker Center and the Haslam College of Business will host former Treasury Secretary John Snow, Baker Distinguished Lecturer, during his Wednesday, September 30, visit to Knoxville. Snow will lead a discussion, “Ensuring American Prosperity in a Global Economy,” at 5:30 p.m. in the Sandra G. Powell Music Hall, Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.
Snow is the former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (2003–2006), CEO of CSX Railroads (1988–2003), and administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He has a doctorate in economics and is a lawyer.
Snow was the 73rd US Secretary of the Treasury and served under President George W. Bush. He worked to strengthen the economy and grow jobs. Following his departure from government service, Snow was appointed chairman of the private Cerberus Capital Management group, a New York private equity firm that invested in the Chrysler Corporation following the Bush administration government bailout.
The Baker Distinguished Lecture Series was established in 2012 to recognize the contributions of notable individuals and promote the values of Sen. Howard H. Baker Jr., whose longstanding commitment to honorable public service has made an indelible mark on U.S. history. The series serves as a forum in which guests of national prominence are invited to speak on matters relevant in today’s society. The series is supported by private donations and corporate sponsorships. All lectures are free and open to the public.
