Yuji Hiratsuka, professor of art at Oregon State University in Corvallis, will speak at UT’s College of Architecture and Design at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17.

Hiratsuka will present a lecture about his printmaking work in Room 109 of the Art and Architecture Building. His talk, presented by the UT Print Club, is free and open to the public. Hiratsuka will also collaborate with students to create a multicolor intaglio print during his visit.

Hiratsuka was born in Osaka, Japan, and received a bachelor’s degree in art education from Tokyo Teachers’ University in 1978. He taught art at several high schools and junior high schools in Osaka until he moved to the United States in 1985 to pursue graduate degrees in printmaking at New Mexico State University and Indiana University. He has taught printmaking and drawing at Oregon State University since 1992.

His work is included in many public collections, including the British Museum, the Tokyo Central Museum, Panstwowe Museum in Poland, the House of Humor and Satire in Bulgaria, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Portland Art Museum, and the Jundt Art Museum in Spokane, Washington.

Many of the visiting artist’s prints are currently on display in the showcases outside UT’s Print Workshop, Room 241 of the Art and Architecture Building.
