Experience Football Game Day Traditions This Saturday

Are you ready for UT’s first home football game of the season against Oklahoma on Saturday? Before you make your way to the stadium for the 6:00 p.m. kick-off, make sure to get in the Vol spirit by joining in on some of UT’s most beloved game day traditions. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and ESPN will televise the game.

Don’t forget to visit the Checker Neyland website to find out whether you should wear orange or white based on your seat location to help create the familiar checkerboard pattern.

The Vol Walk will start at 3:45 p.m. on Volunteer Boulevard near Circle Park, as members of the football team proceed down Volunteer Boulevard and then continue down Peyton Manning Pass to the stadium. The Pride of the Southland Marching Band will begin marching at 4:20 p.m. from the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center on Volunteer Boulevard and will then follow the same path as the Vol Walk.

The Toyota Volunteer Village will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building at 2:30 p.m. The Village offers food and pregame festivities for fans of all ages and features pregame appearances from Smokey, Junior Smokey, cheerleaders and UT’s dance team.

Fans also can attend the College of Arts and Sciences’ Pregame Showcase. Held two hours before each home game kickoff in the McClung Museum auditorium, the showcase is a free thirty-minute presentation by a UT faculty member. This week, at 4:00 p.m., in a presentation titled “Home, Away, and Back Home: How the Language of Music Works,” Wesley Baldwin, professor of music, will discuss the human need to interact with music. He will demonstrate how the language of music engages listeners and evokes various emotions and responses.

SGA2015SGA will host its All Vol Tailgate prior to the game. The event is open to all students and will offer free food and a chance to meet members of SGA. The tailgate will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the Humanities and Social Sciences Building Plaza.
