Center for Transportation Research associate Mareike Ortmann drew the attention of the Cleveland Daily Banner recently for her study involving safety along State Route 60.
One of the major roads in Cleveland and Bradley County, the route has seen a high enough number of accidents that local officials became concerned.
Ortmann’s research focused on a potential link the number of accidents and the number of entry points to the road from businesses, houses, and other streets.
“There are not too many issues, but the driveways could pose a problem for accidents,” Ortmann told the newspaper.
Ortmann presented a number of possible solutions, including widening the road, installing medians, or limiting access.
