A section of Phillip Fulmer Way from Cumberland Avenue to Middle Drive will close on Friday, May 1, as part of the ongoing Student Union construction project.
Vehicles still will be able to access Middle Drive and the Hill by turning right from northbound Phillip Fulmer Way next to Neyland Stadium.
During the closure, the sidewalk on the west side of Phillip Fulmer Way will be closed from Cumberland Avenue to the entrance to the University Center. The sidewalk on the east side of the road will be open from Cumberland Avenue to Middle Drive.
The section of road is closing to accommodate the move-in of furniture and equipment to the first phase of the Student Union, which opens in early June, and the move-out of furniture and equipment from the existing University Center prior to its demolition.
One lane of the closed section will open on May 7 to accommodate Commencement traffic and May 18-23 for Destination Imagination Global Finals traffic.
The road will reopen by August 1.
Also on May 1, access to the University Center loading dock from Volunteer Boulevard will be limited to authorized personnel. Parking will not be allowed along the access drive near the loading dock.
