NICS Mentioned in HPC Article

NICS2NICS, the UT-based National Institute for Computational Sciences, drew notice from Inside HPC on a recent study involving using supercomputers to model wildfire.

Computers are part of an emerging trend in fighting wildfires, with their use coming as a way to establish forecast models to help predict possible flareups, much in the same way that meteorologists use models to predict weather.

Researchers used a specific fire in Texas to help build their initial model, with further tests and refinements forthcoming.
