The Office of Emergency Management will facilitate a full-scale exercise on Friday to test campus plans for working with local response partners in the event of a serious emergency on campus or the surrounding area.

About three hundred people will be involved, which includes one hundred people from eleven external first responder agencies. Many departments—including UT Police and Facilities Services—will engage in the all-day drill.

The mock scenario is based on a tornado hitting campus and causing significant injuries and property damage. Most of the activities will occur between 8:30 a.m. and noon, on the west side of Neyland Stadium.

Students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors in this area on Friday may see emergency vehicles and crews engaged in the exercise, along with “victims” in realistic makeup. UT’s Office of Emergency Management has involved students and faculty of the Community Health Nursing and Global Disaster Nursing programs.

People in the area on Friday are asked to be careful as they move around the vehicles and people involved in the exercise.

Commuter and visitor on-street parking along Phillip Fulmer will be closed all day Thursday, April 16, and Friday, April 17.

All commuters who park in G-10 should enter from Neyland Drive on Friday. The G-10 entrance from Phillip Fulmer Drive will be blocked.

Several other adjustments to campus roads and parking will be in place from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.

  • Phillip Fulmer Drive will be closed to all vehicle traffic from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Peyton Manning Pass.
  • Access to Staff Lot 5, next to Neyland Stadium, will also be restricted. Staff members who wish to park in the lot during this time should enter from Peyton Manning Pass and exit from Tee Martin Drive.
