Three UT Culinary Program students are the first recipients of an inaugural culinary certification scholarship that will help them continue to hone their skill and perfect their craft.

The scholarship was established by the East Tennessee chapter of the American Culinary Federation and presented last month.

The recipients:

Tara Garland, who is the first Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism major to be American Culinary Federation-certified upon graduation this fall. She is preparing for her certified sous chef certification.

Shona House, owner of Faith Baked Cakes, who is preparing to be a certified working pastry chef.

Matt Leatherwood, a cook at the Holiday Inn at World’s Fair Park, who is working to be a certified culinarian.

Scholarships funds were supported by Sysco of Knoxville, Reinhardt foodservice and ARAMARK higher education.
