Dean_Champion vert (3)Twenty-five years ago Lynn Champion, director of communications for the College of Arts and Sciences, founded a lecture series before home football games featuring talks by faculty from the college. From 1989 through 2014, Champion organized and staffed the Pregame Showcase, never missing a lecture.

At the end of the 2014 season, Champion decided to pass the baton to her staff.

In recognition of Champion’s role in creating and overseeing the program for so many years, the college presented her with a plaque mounted on marble recovered from the renovation of Ayres Hall.

“The Pregame Showcase is one of the college’s most effective vehicles for showcasing our faculty and academic programs to our alumni, friends, and the general public,“ said Theresa Lee, dean of the college. “It’s a tribute to Lynn’s creativity and hard work that the program has endured for so long. It’s a program we value and want to keep going. We are grateful for her service these many years.”

Starting next season, Jeremy Hughes will coordinate the Pregame Showcase with support from Susanne Cate. Both Hughes and Cate are part of the Arts and Sciences communications team.

The Pregame Showcase also will have a change in venue. The program has been held in the University Center but must relocate next fall due to the reconstruction of the center. During the 2015 season, Pregame Showcase will be held in the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture.
