A public forum on the chronically poor health condition of people in Knoxville and around Tennessee will be held on Thursday, November 20, at UT Medical Center.

The event, which will be free and open to the public, will be held from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Wood Auditorium in the main hospital building, located on the west side of the medical center campus.

The forum will focus on three key areas:

  • A statistical snapshot of the health of the public, including Knox, Grainger, Blount, Sevier, Anderson, Loudon, Roane, Union, and Jefferson Counties
  • How the area’s poor health status poses a threat to future economic opportunity, quality of life, and state and local financial resources
  • How improving the area’s health profile will require local solutions involving health, business, political and civic leadership, innovative policies, and access to care

Participants will include Martha Buchanan, director of the Knox County Health Department; Rick Johnson, president and CEO of the Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness; Edward Capparelli, Oneida physician; Tom Ferriter, CEO, Bush Brothers; Matt Murray, UT economics professor and assistant director of UT’s Center for Business and Economic Research; Rhoda Rice, executive vice president, Knoxville Chamber and Innovation Valley; and Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero.
