Campus Sponsors Latin Day for Middle and High School Students

UT’s Department of Classics is sponsoring its thirty-third annual Latin Day on Thursday, October 30.

Latin Day is a day of noncompetitive fellowship for middle and high school Latin students from East and Middle Tennessee to learn about the classical world. The tradition began in 1981 at the request of secondary school Latin teachers in Knox County.

Latin Day XXXIII will be held in the Carolyn P. Brown University Center. Students will attend four seminars and have the opportunity to tour the campus. A “Roman Lunch” will be served and there will be a drawing for door prizes.

Latin Day has become a community-builder among young Latinists, a mechanism for university faculty to maintain strong ties with secondary school teachers, and a recruiting event to encourage young students to continue their Latin in college.

The registration fee is $20 for students and $15 for chaperones. For more information, call UT Conferences at 865-974-0280 or e-mail Megan Bolton at mbolton@utk.edu.
