Film critic and director Gerald Peary will introduce the on-campus screening of his 2009 documentary film For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism, which tells the story of American film criticism through film clips, photographs, and on-camera interviews.

The event will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 27, in the John C. Hodges Library Auditorium. A Q&A session will follow.

A brown-bag luncheon will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, in the Mary Greer Room of John C. Hodges Library for open conversation with Peary. Both events are free and open to the public.

Before writing and directing his film, Peary was a long-time critic for the Boston Phoenix. He is now a professor at Suffolk University in Boston, the author of nine books on cinema, and a curator of the Boston University Cinematheque.

This event is sponsored by the Cinema Studies program, Department of Journalism and Electronic Media, and the Hodges Better English Fund.
