The College of Law will host a talk by H. E. Božo Cerar, Slovenian ambassador to the United States, at noon on Monday, October 20, in Room 136.
The talk is free and open to the public.
Cerar’s talk, “The International Criminal Court from Nuremberg to Kampala and Beyond,” will trace and discuss the evolution of international criminal law and the mechanisms for its enforcement on the international level, from the post-World War II period to today. Cerar will discuss challenges and successes as well as opportunities for the future.
Cerar currently serves as an ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United States and Mexico and permanent observer to the international organizations OAS and CARICOM. He previously served as a state secretary of Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has represented his country in Canada and Poland and to NATO in Brussels. He is the author of numerous articles and books on international relations and diplomacy.
The ambassador will take questions from the audience after his presentation, and the talk will be complimented by a catered pizza lunch.
Cerar’s visit is made possible through coordination with Lydia M. Pulsipher, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia’s honorary consul in Knoxville. The UT Law International Law Students Association, the UT Center for International Education, and the UT Department of Philosophy are co-sponsors of the event.
