The McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture will be featured in the upcoming Antiques Roadshow episode “Knoxville, Hour 3,” which airs Monday, October 6, nationally on PBS and locally on East Tennessee PBS at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
The episode features footage from the show’s visit to Knoxville in July. In addition to appraising the treasures of thousands of Knoxvillians, Antiques Roadshow visited the McClung Museum. Show host Mark L. Walberg and a production crew came to the museum to learn more about the treasures housed in its Native American archaeological collection. Appraiser John Buxton spoke about artifacts from the Mississippian period discovered in Tennessee, including the museum’s Native American sandstone figurines, one of which has been named the Tennessee state artifact, and the Duck River Cache, a collection of forty-six chipped stone ceremonial implements.
Antiques Roadshow is produced by WGBH Boston and is PBS’s highest-rated ongoing series.
The McClung Museum is located at 1327 Circle Park Drive. Museum admission is free, and the museum’s hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Free parking is available on Circle Park Drive on a first-come, first-served basis on weekends. Free public transportation to the museum is also available via the Knoxville Trolley Vol Line.
