With the completion of the Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Gamma houses, Sorority Village on Morgan Hill is now complete—just in time for sorority recruitment.
Women begin moving in to the two houses next week. Now that the development’s thirteen houses are complete, 535 women will live at Sorority Village.
Sorority members in leadership positions are returning this week to prepare for recruitment, August 14-20. Nearly 900 women are registered to participate in this fall’s recruitment.
This is the first year that all recruitment events will take place in Sorority Village. Last year, events took place at the Panhellenic Building on Cumberland Avenue, Neyland Stadium, and the houses that had been completed in Sorority Village.
Katherine Johnson, senior in supply chain management and president of Panhellenic Council, is excited about the completion of the complex and what it means for sorority life at the university.
“The most exciting part is that these thirteen houses provide a common place where members can come, interact, take ownership, and feel safe,” Johnson said.
“By choosing this investment, our chapters are operating better than ever. We are also seeing greater interest in recruiting future members into our community,” she continued. “I feel as though the university as a whole is also benefiting from the new addition. The beautiful architecture and facilities help motivate incoming freshmen to choose UT.”
The houses range from 9,000 to 17,000 square feet. They are funded by private donations and rent fees paid by chapter residents. The thirteen houses are occupied by Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Pi Beta Phi, Sigma Kappa, and Zeta Tau Alpha.
The Sorority Village Center administrative building, which opened in fall 2013, is also part of the complex and houses administrative offices, meeting space, and a designated space for Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
The university broke ground on Sorority Village in 2011, and houses began opening in fall 2012.
