The Knoxville News Sentinel featured an article on Barry “Butch” Wilmore, a UT graduate, who will take command of the International Space Station in November. Wilmore is one of ten current or former astronauts who received a degree from the UT Space Science Institute. Another, Margaret Rhea Seddon, earned her medical degree from UT. Fellow UT Space Institute graduate Scott Kelly, who is also the twin brother of fellow astronaut Mark Kelly and the brother-in-law of former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, has been selected as the first American to serve a yearlong stint on the space station. His flight will be in 2015.
