Supercomputer Research Sheds Light on Red Blood Cell Function in Spleen

Using the Darter supercomputer at UT’s National Institute of Computational Sciences, a team of researchers is modeling the biophysics of red blood cells to understand their behavior in the spleen, with the aim of finding cures to diseases. http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photography-red-blood-cells-image13921737The project explores the critical blood pressure highs and lows required for healthy and pathological red blood cells to pass through the small pores in the spleen.
