The Educational Advancement Program’s Summer 2014 Research Institute, an undergraduate preparation for graduate school, began in May and ended last week.
Fifteen first-generation, low-income, or underrepresented undergraduates engaged in examining a research topic, gaining skills and knowledge about preparing a literature review, examining research methods, and practicing technical writing all under the guidance of a UT faculty mentor.
Participants also attend a series of workshops and seminars, related to enrolling and completing graduate school. Each student completed a literature review, and presented their preliminary work in a final presentation forum on July 2. Participants also attended the twentieth annual SAEOPP National McNair Research Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, last month.
The EAP institute is sponsored with funds from the Office of the Provost, the Office of Research, and the vice president for equity and diversity, and is administered and supported by the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Diversity.
