Three UT students have been selected by the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis, or NIMBioS, for its highly competitive Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates and Teachers currently underway on campus. Participating are Veronica Go, an undergraduate in biochemistry and statistics; Margaret McDaniel, an undergraduate in mathematics and biochemistry and molecular biology; and Benjamin Roberson, an undergraduate in computer science. Projects range from modeling Argentine ant super-colonies to tracking facial expressions and conscious experience of emotion.
More information about the SRE program, a list of participants, and further details about the projects can be found on the NIMBioS website.
NIMBioS is a National Science Foundation-sponsored initiative to foster interdisciplinary research at the interface between mathematical and biological sciences.
