DI2014A record-setting 1,414 student teams from forty-one states and sixteen countries will converge on our campus for the Destination Imagination Global Finals. The competition will be held May 21 through 24.

Destination Imagination is a nonprofit organization that provides learning opportunities to enrich the global community. This is the fourteenth year Knoxville has hosted the creative thinking and problem-solving competition for kindergarten through university-level students.

This year’s Global Finals will include guest appearances from America’s Got Talent performance painter David Garibaldi and American Idol contestant Rachel Hale. The event also will feature activities that include the Scotch Duct Tape Playground and the US Space and Rocket Center.

Teams selected from more than 15,000 entries will present the projects created during their regional competitions. In addition to the presentations, teams will compete in open-ended challenges during the week-long competition. Such challenges require teams to solve problems using a holistic approach of science, technology, engineering, and math knowledge, as well as improvisation, theater arts, writing, project management, communication innovation, teamwork, and community service.

More than a million students have been involved with Destination Imagination since it was founded in 1982.
