utpdThe UT Police Department will conduct multiagency active shooter training exercises at Melrose Hall during the month of April. This training will take place in sections of Melrose Hall that are currently vacant. The training will not impact other offices in the building. From 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 9, 16, 23, and 30, officers and staff from UTPD will work with the Knoxville Police Department and Knoxville Fire Department to participate in the training events.

During the exercises, response teams comprised of both officers and firefighters from the different agencies will participate in realistic training involving active shooter scenarios. UTPD hosts this type of exercise to be prepared in the event of a potentially violent situation on campus. Signage will be in place to mark the training areas. The campus community is asked to avoid the training area on the April 9, 16, 23, and 30 if possible.
