Starting as early as this week, fencing will be placed around the staircase between the Burchfiel and Austin Peay buildings on the Hill. The closure is in advance of removing and replacing the old staircase at the site where the new pedestrian bridge will connect to the Hill. The plaza outside Burchfiel also will feature a new accessible ramp to Austin Peay.
Pedestrians accustomed to using the old staircase between the two buildings to reach the Hill will instead have to travel to Middle Drive and then use the staircases on either side of the Nielsen Physics Building. Additional signage will be placed in the construction area to assist pedestrian access to the Hill.
The project is set to finish by August 1.
